Graham Ivan Clark, who was 17 years old at the time of the 2020 Twitter attack, has admitted guilt for his role in the attack that compromised the accounts of several high-profile individuals and companies.
Clark, along with two other accomplices, gained access to the accounts of high-profile Twitter users and posted messages asking followers to send Bitcoin to a specific wallet address. The attack was estimated to have netted the hackers over $100,000 in Bitcoin.
Clark pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including organized fraud, communications fraud, and access to computer or electronic devices without authority. Under the terms of his plea agreement, he will serve three years in a juvenile facility, followed by three years of probation.
The two other accomplices, Mason Sheppard and Nima Fazeli, are currently awaiting trial for their roles in the attack.
The Twitter attack was a high-profile example of the dangers of social engineering and phishing attacks, which rely on tricking individuals into revealing sensitive information or granting access to their accounts. It also highlighted the importance of cybersecurity measures for individuals and companies alike.
